Dorchester Illustration 2206 Putnam Nail Company

Dorchester Illustration no. 2206

The Putnam Horseshoe Nail company was one of the early manufacturers at Port Norfolk.  The attached illustration shows an advertisement including some of the day’s famous horses and reasons to buy the Putnam nail.  In 1890 eight and a half tons of nails were manufactured every day by 425 employees .

Horseshoe Nails, Yachts and Nutty Buddys have all been made at the site of the horseshoe nail company.  Eat and drink your way through the manufacturing history of Port Norfolk at the Dorchester Historical Society’s  fundraiser on September 20th, 4-6 pm, at the new Boston Harbor Distillery, 12R Ericsson Street, Port Norfolk in Dorchester.  Buy tickets at www.dorchesterhistoricalsocietyblog.org and scroll down toward the bottom of the  home page.
