Product Information

Robert Barnet, the subject of this book was a prosperous Boston sugar-merchant who lived on Carruth Street in Dorchester.  He wrote and produced enormously popular musical theatricals for the First Corps of Cadets, a volunteer militia of young upper-class Boston businessmen who sought money to build an armory as protection against feared immigrant uprisings.  Barnet himself starred as Queen Isabella of Spain in the production 1492.  He helped the Cadets raise nearly half of the money required to construct the armory building at Park Square.
