Although the Dorchester Historical Society is not equipped to carry out genealogical research, the following material provides a starting point for those who are interested in finding their ancestors and information about the events that occurred while their ancestors were living in Dorchester.

Vital Records

Birth, marriage, and death records may be found at two state agencies, depending on the date. As time goes on, more records are transferred from the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records and Statistics to the Massachusetts Archives. Both institutions are located on Columbia Point in Dorchester. Please contact the respective agency for information about which records they hold.
